Pre-Incubation Programfor Founders with an Idea, Not Yet a Company
Incubators and accelerators usually want a team, a product or early traction. Before that there is a gap: you have an idea, maybe a college project or a side project, and no structure to find out if it is worth building. LVL1 Startup School is built for that stage. Twelve weeks, online, with an operator reviewing your work every week and no equity taken.
30 seats per cohort · ₹499 to be reviewed · ₹12,000/month for 3 months, only if accepted · no equity
Who pre-incubation is for
Pre-incubation is the step before an incubator or accelerator: turning an idea into evidence. It suits three kinds of first-time founders.
Students and recent graduates
Final-year students and fresh graduates who want to test an idea properly before, or instead of, taking a placement, around a college timetable.
Working professionals
People with a full-time job and more ideas than time, who want to test one on evenings and weekends before touching the job. Check your employment contract for outside-work and IP clauses first.
Idea-stage founders
Founders who have left a job to build something and do not yet have the product or traction an incubator or accelerator expects.
Pre-incubation vs incubation vs acceleration
Each stage answers a different question. Knowing which one you are at saves months of applying to the wrong programmes.
| Incubator or accelerator | LVL1 Startup School | |
|---|---|---|
| Stage | A team and a product, often early users or revenue | An idea, or an early prototype. Idea stage is fine |
| Main question | How do we grow this? | Is this problem real, and will someone pay for it? |
| Commitment | Usually full-time | About ten hours a week, around a job or college |
| Cost to you | Often equity in your company | ₹12,000 a month for three months, no equity |
| What you leave with | Growth, investor readiness | A validated problem, a first version and your first paying customer where the idea holds |
What the twelve weeks include
Three phases: validate the problem, build the smallest useful version, and launch to a paying customer. Founders who do well can apply to the LVL1 Accelerator afterwards.
- Four live 1:1 sessions a month with operators who have built and sold companies
- A twelve-week curriculum with deadlines that a mentor signs off, not you
- Customer interviews and a problem test before you write any code
- Recorded library, templates, a cohort community and partner perks
- A closing review: keep going, change direction, or stop, decided on evidence
- No equity taken. You keep 100% of your company

Pre-incubation: questions
What is a pre-incubation program?
A pre-incubation program helps founders at the idea stage turn an idea into evidence: a validated problem, a first version and early customers. It comes before incubation or acceleration, which usually expect a team and a product.
Is this pre-incubation program online?
Yes. LVL1 Startup School runs fully online, with live 1:1 sessions booked from your portal on evenings and weekends, so founders anywhere in India can join.
Can students join?
Yes. Students and recent graduates are welcome. The programme is sized for about ten hours a week so it fits around a college timetable.
How is this different from my college incubator or a government scheme?
Those are valuable and we encourage founders to use them. Startup School is narrower: a fixed twelve-week curriculum, a named operator reviewing your work every week, and a hard deadline to get a paying customer. It complements a college incubator or a scheme like Startup India rather than replacing it.
What does it cost?
A one-time ₹499 review fee when you apply, then ₹12,000 per month for three months, charged only if you are accepted. No equity, no success fee.
What happens after pre-incubation?
You leave with a clear decision on what comes next. Founders who do well are invited to apply to the LVL1 Accelerator, a separate equity programme for startups with a product and early traction.
